This was the first successful blues record. This was the first successful record featuring a black vocalist.

It was a runaway success, and launched Mamie Smith down a Huge career. It doesn’t sound like The Blues as we know it today, because that wouldn’t get recorded for another 6 years (even though it certainly existed at this time.
